पार्टी के जनम, साल 2011 में भइल ब्यापक आंदोलन 'इंडिया अगेंस्ट करप्शन' जे जन लोकपाल बिल के मांग में होखत रहल, के अंत में भइल। एह आंदोलन में केजरीवाल के महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रहे हालाँकि, आंदोलन के मुख्य नेता [[अन्ना हजारे]] रहलें। एकरे बाद एगो राजनीतिक पार्टी बनावे पर मतभेद भइल आ केजरीवाल राजनीतिक दल बनावे आ राजनीति में सक्रिय रूप से हिस्सा लेवे के बिचार बना लिहलें।

पार्टी साल 2013 में दिल्ली के राजनीति में उतरल आ चुनाव में दिल्ली बिधान सभा के 70 गो में से 28 गो सीट जितलस आ दुसरे अस्थान पर रहे वाली पार्टी बनल। कौनो पार्टी के बहुमत ना मिले के कारन आप आ कांग्रेस मिल के सरकार बनवलस। तेजी देखावत, दिल्ली में जन लोकपाल बिल ले आइल गइल, जब ई साफ़ भ गइल कि अउरी बाकी बड़ पार्टी सभ एह बिल के समर्थन ना करिहें, आम आदमी पार्टी इस्थीपा दे दिहलस। ई सरकार 49 दिन खाती चलल।

साल 2015 में जब दुबारा दिल्ली बिधानसभा के चुनाव भइल, आम आदमी पार्टी के भारी जीत भइल आ 70 गो में से 67 सीट जीत लिहलस, बाकी तीन सीट भाजपा के मिलल आ कांग्रेस के एकहू सीट ना मिलल।
