"Nga" ("Ngaa") literally means fish and "Leima" literally means "lady", "mistress" or "queen" in Meitei/Meetei/Manipuri language. "Ngaleima" ("Ngareima") refers to the goddess of fish and aquatic life in Meitei mythology and religion (Sanamahism) of Antique Kangleipak (Ancient Manipur). |
