English: Pullavan Veenai, a string instrument, Origin: Very ancient, Region: Kerala. Material: Wooden frame, bamboo, monitor lizard's skin, nagachitamrada (snake plant). It has a flat circular base frame, covered by monitor lizard skin and a bamboo stick attached to it at the top, connected by a string. It is played using a low like the violin. Called the Pullava Veenai, this is basically a tribal musical instrument used by the Pulluvan tribals of Kerala. This is the base instrument for serpent worship in kerala homes, through a ritual called pulluvar paattu/sarppa thullal. Played by the Pulluva male, this is accompanied by a percussion instrument called the Pullavaththi Kudam, played by the tribe's women while singing Pulluva paatu. The songs are about Mahabarata, Nagyakshi stories or even agriculture. The instrument is famous in Valluvanad area of Kerala. The Pulluvas go on a 41 days fast before performing the Sarppa thullai in front of the sarppa kaalam.
தமிழ்: வீணைக்கஞ்சு, புல்லுவன் வீணை. கேரளப் பழங்குடி இசை, காலம்: மிகப் பழமையானது. இடம்: கேரளம். மூலப்பொருள்: மூங்கில், மர சட்டம், உடும்புத் தோல், நாகசித்தாம்ரத. தட்டையான வட்ட வடிவ அடிப்பகுதியும், மேற்பகுதியில் மூங்கில் கழியுடன் நரம்பு ஒன்றும் இணைக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது. மூங்கில் குச்சி கொண்டு அதில் தேய்த்து இசை எழுப்புகின்றனர். புல்லுவ வீணை என்றும் வழங்கப்படும் இது, புல்லுவர் என்ற கேரளப் பகுதி பழங்குடியினர் இசைக்கும் கருவி, கேரளத்து வீடுகளில் 'சர்ப்பத் துள்ளல்'/புல்லுவன் பாட்டு என்ற நாக வழிபாட்டுக்கு புல்லுவ ஆண் இந்தக் கருவியும், துணைக் கருவியாக புல்லுவத்தி குடம் என்ற அடியிசைக் கருவியைப் புல்லுவ இனப் பெண்களும் இசைத்தடிபடிப் பாடுகிறார்கள். மகாபாரதம் மற்றும் நாகயக்ஷிக் கதைகள்/ விவசாயம் குறித்து பெரும்பாலும் பாடப்படுகின்றன. வள்ளுவநாடு பகுதிகளில் இக்கருவி மிகப் பிரசித்தம். 41 நாட்கள் விரதம் இருந்து புல்லுவர்களால் சர்ப்ப காலம் முன் பாடப்படுகின்றன, புல்லுவன் பாடல்கள். |
