Ritratto di Tristano da Acugna ambito raffaellesco

Misure: 750 mm x 960 mm

Notizie storico-critiche: Il ritratto venne probabilmente tolto dal Museo di Borgovico per essere portato nella casa Grande dei Giovio, oggi corrispondente ai numeri 107 e 109 di via V.Emanuele.cfr. Rovelli, 1928, p.157. Qui rimase agli eredi con cognome Giovio fino circa alla metà del xix secolo, quando l'ultimo discendente, Paolo Giovio, vendette gli immobili a Pietro Baragiola e divise fra le nipoti e le figlie la collezione dei ritratti. Il dipinto venne spedito a Como nel maggio 1549. Unica derivazione è l'incisione dello Stimmer (P.Giovio, 1575, p.230). L'esploratore portoghese fece il suo ingrsso trionfale in Roma il 12 marzo 1514, portando a Leone X le spoglie della sua recente conquista dell'India: è a questo che si riferisce l'iscrizione nel quadro. Se questo quadro fosse stato realizzato per Giovio mentre Tristano era a Roma, sarebbe il più antico dipinto della collezione Giovio.

E' possibile che il dipinto sia stato copiato da un altro di bottega raffaellesca fatto quando Tristano era a Roma, tra il 1514 e il 1520; esso sembra anche essere l'unico ritratto conosciuto di Tristano del xvi secolo. cfr. scheda Klinger nell'Archivio Musei Civici di Como.
